Spring in Bromyard

This is a PSA to shake of those winter blues and get ready for spring in Bromyard. It’s official we are starting to see a few more hours of daylight and even some sunnier days. Spring is the best time of year to get out the house and start exploring your local area, discover new places and maybe travel further afield.

There’s plenty to keep you busy, from exploring nature, enjoying great local food and drink to finding a new hobby.  To make it easy for you, we’ve picked out some of the best things you can do this spring in Bromyard

Bromyard Nature

For some, the winter months are just too cold and sitting by a warm fire cosied up on the sofa is far more appealing than getting your walking boots on and heading outside. However, the cold air has lifted, and the spring weather is the best time to enjoy the beautiful countryside that surrounds Bromyard.

The best place to start for a walk in the spring sunshine is the Bromyard Downs. The enormous expanse of land was once a part of the mediaeval Manor of Bromyard which offers easy ascents, old woods, breath-taking views, and a bounty of wildlife.

The Downs is connected to The Brockhampton estate which is another place that we would highly recommend. The estate is cared by for the National Trust and has plenty of history and nature to absorb.

If you still haven’t got your fix of nature yet, head over to Moors Meadow and Ralph Court Gardens to spend time admiring some stunning plants and unwind from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Spring Events

A major date in Bromyard town’s calendar is the Town Crier Festival, this year held on the 29th April. The festival held in Bromyard, will feature Town Criers from throughout the Country, competing for the honours over the course of two sessions. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

Ok we’ve waited long enough now. The monthly market is back and is top of the list of things to do this spring. The market in 2022 was a huge success, but this year we want to make it bigger and better. The market is hosted in Bromyard Market Square of the first Sunday of every month 10am – 1pm. With plenty of stalls to browse, food to enjoy and goodies to buy the market is a great way to spend a sunny Sunday morning in spring.

Herefordshire Food and Drink

So, one of the stalls has caught your eye at the market and you just have to know more. Stall holder and some of the most talented orchardists, Little Pomona offer tasting tours. You can get the full experience, learning all about the ciders and perries, hopefully helping you find your new favourite drink.

Staying on the topic of beverages, Frome Valley and Wye Valley Brewery both offer tours and tasting sessions. We think this is the perfect day out, or gift for a loved one.

With Mother’s Day fast approaching we thought it was best to suggest some lovely places to treat your Mum this year.

Top of the list is Crumplebury’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Where corks will pop and plates will overflow with freshly baked cakes, mouth-watering handmade sandwiches, and other great appetisers.

An alternative to this, is heading out for a coffee date at one of Bromyard’s fantastic cafes.

Bromyard Activities

Wanting to take up a new hobby this spring? How about fishing? Kingfisher Trout Lake is located in the midst of Herefordshire’s picturesque countryside. The lake provides good sport and relaxation for both beginners and those more advanced.

If fishing isn’t your thing, don’t worry there is plenty other sports clubs that you can join and try out. Almost 120 clubs and organisations can be found in Bromyard. Including sports like football, rugby, cricket, bowls, badminton, archery, and table tennis.

It’s safe to say that you’re bound to have a full calendar this spring. Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up to date with the latest events.
