Spring and Summer at Brockhampton: Things to do in Bromyard

This summer, discover the great outdoors and reconnect with nature at Brockhampton. Nestled deep in the Herefordshire countryside, Brockhampton is the perfect countryside escape, with a picturesque, moated manor house, miles of walks through park and woodland, over 86 acres of traditional orchards, natural play areas, and a variety of events and activities running throughout the year.

Things to do for families

Children can have fun exploring Brockhampton on two wheels, as balance bikes are free to hire from visitor reception. Follow the accessible paths into the reimagined orchards and discover sculptures, tunnels, stepping logs and much more along the natural play trail. Little ones can burn off steam in the different orchard rooms or imagine sailing downstream as captain of the ‘Hereford Bull’ trow boat, which takes centre stage in the newly planted orchards. This orchard trail can take anything from an hour to a whole day, depending on how much fun you’re having.

Where to Walk

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not follow one of the four way-marked walks across the wider estate? There are several walking trails to choose from at Brockhampton, from short strolls to two-mile-long walks, where you can discover wildlife havens at Grove and Lawn pool, pockets of semi-natural ancient woodland, and sweeping views over the Herefordshire countryside. Brockhampton is also home to over 86 acres of traditional orchards, the largest cared for by the National Trust, making it the perfect place to tune into the orchard rhythm, enjoying the bursts of blossom in spring and the laden boughs of fruit in autumn. Brockhampton’s 1½-mile orchard walk follows hard-standing accessible paths, suitable for both pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Food at Brockhampton

The tranquil moated manor house makes the perfect backdrop for picnics, so bring a packed lunch and enjoy an afternoon relaxing in one of the orchard hammocks. You can also stop by the Granary kiosk for your favourite take-away picnic snacks, including light lunches, hot and cold drinks, and a selection of ice creams.

Summer Events

Throughout the year, you can get involved in plenty of fun activities at Brockhampton, from crafts and workshops to larger events and festival days. During every school holiday, your family can get involved in one of the children’s trails around the orchards, completing the fun games and activities to win yourself a prize. Children’s trails run everyday of the school holidays at Brockhampton and cost £3 per child. Throughout the summer, there are also some great opportunities to explore the wider estate, with ranger-led pond dipping sessions and guided woodland walks.

In 2023, Brockhampton is working in partnership with Salt Road’s We Foragers Unquiet, an artist-led programme funded by Arts Council England. Throughout the year, We Foragers Unquiet are hosting a number of events and festival days at Brockhampton featuring workshops, performances, food art, animation, and photography that visitors can get involved with.
